Confidential court records obtained from the Federal Trade Commission’s legal battle against Microsoft have unveiled an upcoming console upgrade, accompanied by a fresh controller design. Internally referred to as Sebile, this innovative model boasts a rechargeable and interchangeable battery, enhanced mobile app functionalities, and an accelerometer.
Through the utilization of Bluetooth 5.2 and direct cloud connectivity, users will have the flexibility to connect the controller with various devices. In terms of practical features, the controller incorporates VCA haptics that double as speakers, buttons and thumbsticks with reduced noise levels, and an accelerometer to enable gyroscopic controls. It is worth noting that no previous Xbox controller has offered gyro controls, and the leaked documents fail to specify which games will support this feature. Additionally, a simple lift of the controller will activate it.
The leaked presentation deck provides an in-depth overview of Sebile’s features.
Within the documents, Microsoft emphasizes the controller’s sustainability, as it will be bundled with a rechargeable and replaceable battery. Furthermore, the controller incorporates a higher proportion of recycled materials and reduced resin, although the specifics of the recycled components are not disclosed in the leaked documents. The records also indicate that the controller is designed to be easily disassembled and repaired. Similar to the current Xbox Series X controller, Sebile will be available in standard and limited editions, with the option for customization through Xbox Design Lab. It is highly likely that an Elite variant will also be released.
It is important to note that these documents may not reflect the most up-to-date information, and the controller’s features or specifications could potentially differ upon its actual release, assuming it materializes at all. The leaked court records also outline plans for new Xbox models, including Brooklin, a digital-only Xbox Series X with its own codename. Additionally, the documents discuss details regarding a cloud hybrid console slated for launch in 2028.
