Don’t get your hopes up for a fresh Last of Us game reveal or updates on Season 2 of the HBO series tomorrow. Developer Naughty Dog is attempting to manage expectations ahead of Last of Us Day, which takes place on September 26 annually.
On Twitter/X, the official Naughty Dog account shared that a special livestream will commence at 9 AM PT/ 12 PM ET tomorrow “featuring announcements focused on art, merchandise, and more.” However, that “more” does not include new information on The Last of Us Season 2 or updates on the multiplayer title. The studio clarified that it “will not be discussing any future game or TV show projects.”
Nevertheless, Naughty Dog has been relatively transparent about the state of the franchise this year. Earlier this month, Neil Druckmann informed Entertainment Tonight that HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2 is “prepared to proceed” once the Hollywood writers strike concludes. A tentative agreement suggests that it may conclude soon. Additionally, showrunner Craig Mazin recently confirmed with The Los Angeles Times that Abby has already been cast for the second season.
In May, the studio revealed that The Last of Us multiplayer game requires additional development time before receiving an official unveiling. In the same social media post, Naughty Dog mentioned that they are working on a new single-player experience, presumably within the franchise.
The Last of Us initially launched in 2013, making this year the franchise’s 10-year anniversary. The game was remastered as Part I for PS5 last year and became accessible on PC earlier this year.
